Suing the City of New York

If you believe that you have a claim against the City of New York or another New York State City, town, village, or governmental entity (such as the New York City Transit Authority) you must act quickly to protect your rights. In general, the law requires that before you may sue any of these entities you must file a Notice of Claim within ninety (90) days of the date of the incident. If you fail to file the notice of claim within the ninety (90) day period you may lose forever your right to sue, even though you have a legitimate claim for serious injuries.

It is important to note that the law is not uniform across the State. Thus, for some cities, towns and villages across the State you may have less time in which to file your notice of claim. The law in this area is very complex and many a good case has been lost because an injured party did not know of the notice of claim requirements.

If you believe that you have a case against the City of New York or another New York State City, town, village, or governmental entity it is critical that you get competent legal help as soon as possible so that your rights are preserved. If you are seeking a lawyer to represent you in your claim we strongly suggest that you contact the Law Offices of MILLER & MILLER.
